Safe abortions are performed by qualified doctors in full time medical practices
When seeking abortion care, women should always ask the facility directly when making an appointment if they provide full time abortion services and if the doctor works in the medical practice full time. Women have a right to know that abortion providers are not all the same. There are part time abortion providers who provide limited access for abortion services and full time abortion practices who have full time doctors and full time access for women seeking care. The full time practices have a regular doctor working every day providing medical procedures and abortion options every day. This provides women with a reliable, safe and immediate care facility for women’s reproductive services. This is modern, safe women’s care and modern medicine. This is what every patient should expect and what every women deserves. Medical care should be available every day and a doctor, not just a nurse who is not qualified or licensed in Florida to provide unsupervised surgical services, must be available in abortion practices as women may have additional needs and patients need to know that they have a safe place to immediately seek this care if needed.
Women also have the absolute right to know who the doctor is providing surgical care and what their training and experience level is. As the surgical abortion is a gynecologic procedure, it is important that doctor is trained in gynecology and highly experienced. There is definitely never a reason to be told by an abortion provider that there is a delay in the ability to make an appointment for an abortion procedure, as it is well known that care for abortion procedures in full time facilities will always be immediately available and the full time doctors will always get patients in immediately, often even the same day. If a facility only has a part time doctor, and states they are “booked up” for days or even sometimes weeks, this is simply an unfortunate indication that a part time facility may not actually have a required doctor available, and this also may indicate a facility does not have a full time on-site physician on staff. If a facility tells you they don’t have immediate availability for a pregnancy termination, which is well recognized these days as highly time sensitive and considered an urgent medical care need, realize that it is essential to be seen to confirm the gestational date of the pregnancy immediately, to avoid losing to option of obtaining care due to any unnecessary delay. For safety, there should never be more than a one day wait to get a time sensitive pregnancy termination without confirming the gestational date of the pregnancy. Doctors are the only ones who can perform abortions and surgery in Florida. Be safe, always ask the right questions, and always seek qualified, experienced care.
